McDonald’s Breakfast Sauce Recipe

McDonald’s has a habit of introducing foods that become very popular, only to remove them during one of its frequent menu reviews. And unfortunately, his beloved breakfast saucedeliciously creamy and tart, met that fate.

It was often served with their breakfast bagels and was especially popular when served on their folded egg and bacon bagel (which was also discontinued).

However, many people enjoyed the sauce so much that they managed to recreate it. Thanks to them, today we can share with you this McDonald’s breakfast sauce copycat recipe.

How to make McDonald’s breakfast sauce

This is a wonderfully tangy and creamy sauce that uses mayonnaise, mustard, and lemon to create one of the best sauces for sandwiches, burgers, and bagels. It’s also incredibly easy to make, since you only need a teaspoon of each ingredient.

It can all be made in 3 minutes, with just a small bowl and a whisk, so you can get a little creative with it. Wear it with anything and everything!

(5 servings)

  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon meat sauce
  • 1 tablespoon dried dill
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Although it sounds like a fairly simple recipe, there is a reason we use equal amounts of each ingredient, as we try to bring out the creaminess with the mayonnaise, the tangy and tangy flavor qualities with the mustard, and that nice citrus kick with the lemon.

You can add salt and pepper to taste, according to your preferences; I recommend adding a little more pepper to give the sauce an extra kick.

Step 1:

In a small bowl, combine the mustard, lemon juice, meat sauce, and dill.

Step 2:

Add a little salt and pepper to taste and mix it all up.

Step 3:

Cover the bowl and chill it for a bit to cool down and get that nice thick consistency before serving.

And that’s it. It’s that simple!

Ingredient Substitution

As this is designed to be served alongside breakfast menu items, it is not supposed to taste too strong and abrasive.

This gives us a great opportunity to adjust the recipe to our preferences by substituting or adding additional ingredients.

In addition, it is very easy to turn it into a sauce suitable for vegans.

1. Tabasco

The easiest way to turn this creamy sauce into something with a little more struggle is tabasco sauce.

Just 4-5 drops of tabasco sauce in a 5-serving recipe will be enough to give it a very respectable amount of heat.

If you don’t like the taste of Tabasco, you can use cayenne pepper instead, as it tends to add less flavor and is mainly used to add just “pure heat.”

2. Sour cream

A great alternative if you don’t have mayonnaise available (or just don’t like the taste of it).

It has a very similar consistency and will add that extra bit of flavor that mayonnaise can’t quite satisfy. It’s also a somewhat healthier option than mayonnaise, as it contains a bit of vitamin A and B12.

You can use it in a simple 1:1 substitution ratio.

3. Lemon juice

It is by far the best substitute for lemon juice. It contains remarkably similar levels of acidity and flavor, so you can use it in a nice and easy 1:1 substitution.

Although the lime has its own flavor compared to the lemon, it still adds that acidity and citrus flavor to the sauce.

Use it in place of other common substitutes like vinegar, which is less acidic and doesn’t keep as well.

4. Avocado

If you want to lighten up your breakfast and add some healthy, nutritious fats to your dip, simply mash ¼ to ⅓ of an avocado and toss it into your breakfast dip.

We all know how good avocado is on toast, so it makes a great pairing with any type of breakfast sandwich, bagel, or muffin.

With what to accompany Mcdonald’s breakfast sauce

Although this sauce was originally designed to be served with many of their breakfast menu items. There is also nothing stopping you from using it for lunch and dinner.

It is so easy to make that you can prepare it and use it in whatever you want. But here are our top suggestions for great pairings for this sauce, whether you want to spread it on something or use it as a dipping sauce.

egg muffin

This was a pretty obvious choice: the quintessential quick and easy morning meal that will always leave you satisfied and ready to tackle the day.

Spread some of the breakfast sauce on both sides of a freshly toasted English muffin and top it with some bacon, cheese and egg to give your morning sandwich that extra kick.

sausage burrito

Though not as popular as the egg muffin, McDonald’s sausage burrito, consisting of pork, melted cheese, green chile, and onion, accompanied by fluffy scrambled eggs, greatly benefits from a little breakfast sauce. .

If you make the burrito yourself, you can spread it on the inside of the wrapper using the back of a spoon, or for a more decadent approach, use it as a sauce to dip the burrito in before taking a bite.

Hash Browns

They are a great complement to any of the other breakfasts. These crispy fried hash browns taste delicious when dipped in some of our hot breakfast sauce.

The best thing is that you can buy them frozen in bulk at the supermarket, which makes it easy to enjoy this winning combination with only 10 minutes of cooking.

McDonald’s “Big Breakfast”

How to preserve Mcdonald’s breakfast sauce

To keep the consistency nice and thick, and ingredients like mayonnaise as fresh as possible, when not in use it’s best to keep this sauce refrigerated to ensure maximum flavor and shelf life. Luckily this is easy to do.

Store in the fridge

Transfer the sauce to an airtight container or simply cover it with plastic wrap and refrigerate it, once stored it will keep for up to two months. As long as it is well closed.

Store in the freezer

Freezing is a great option if you want to make the sauce in bulk and use it for later. Transfer the sauce to freezer bags, press to get as much air out as possible and freeze.

Due to the mayonnaise present, it will only last about 3 months once frozen. Also keep in mind that, once defrosted, you should not refreeze it.
